Navy Commander: IONS willing to form military alliance
Tehran, Iranian Navy Commander Rear-Admiral Hossein Khanzadi acknowledged on Tuesday that delegations attending the 6th Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) in Tehran implicitly agreed with formation of a military coalition.
He said security in the Indian Ocean region is a priority, so Iran proposed a military coalition to be formed between members of IONS.
Khanzadi added that most of participating representatives, whom I had bilateral meeting with them agreed with the proposal and it is due that the issue to be proposed at the commanders meeting and in case of total agreement to be executed.
He added that meetings with ten different naval delegations from countries like; Turkey, Bangladesh, Indonesia, China, India, South Africa, Russia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Japan were held.
The commander said members had direct negotiations on exchanging students at different levels and added that the participants also discussed dispatching flotilla to each other countries as well as holding naval maneuver in different levels of tactics, relief and rescue.
The rear admiral also announced joint naval maneuver of relief and rescue between Iran and Oman naval forces to be held on May 7-8, 2018.
