Navy personnel off to Lebanon to join UN peacekeeping mission

DHAKA, June 13, 2017 (BSS) - The first group of 135 members of Bangladesh Navy left Chittagong on Monday night to join United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission BANCON-8 in Lebanon.

The navy members will join naval ships 'Ali Haider' and 'Nirmul', said an ISPR press release here today.

Commanding officer of BNS Isa Khan Commodore M Musa saw off the navy members at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.

The second group of another 135 navy members will leave for Lebanon on June 23 to join the UN peacekeeping mission.

For the first time in 2010 following the sincere efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Navy added a new dimension in Peacekeeping by sending BNS Osman' and BNS Madhumati'.

Besides patrolling, they are spying on suspecting ships and aircraft, Maritime interdiction operation, rescuing ships from accident, the release added.
