New chief: IRNA beyond political affiliations
Tehran, Zia Hashemi, the newly-appointed managing-director of the Islamic Republic News Agency, said on Monday that IRNA is beyond political affiliations and belongs to all Iranian people and government.
Hashemi made the remarks during a ceremony in Tehran where he officially became managing director of IRNA.
Hashemi, born in 1967, replaced Mohammad Khoddadi who resigned last week. Khoddadi was appointed as IRNA chief on September 16, 2013 by former Culture Minister Ali Jannati.
Referring to IRNA's 83 years of experience, Hashemi said that he could not reject Culture Minister Abbas Salehi's offer because he regards IRNA as a university.
'My links with media has a 20-year record and I'm familiar with its ups and downs,' Hashemi said.
