Non-joining Paris Convention to eliminate Iran’s right to vote
Tehran, October 28, IRNA- The head of International Affairs and Conventions of Iran's Department of Environment emphasized that refusing to join Paris Agreement would turn Iran from a major and active member into an inactive and observer, and will eliminate its rights to vote.
Nasser Moqaddasi said at a news conference on Sunday evening that Iran was one of the active countries in the Paris talks, which led to Paris Agreement; the agreement was passed in Iran in 2016 in Parliament of Iran, but has not yet been approved by the Guardian Council.
He emphasized, 'We wrote letters to the authorities to add Iran to the Paris agreement so far, and we mentioned disadvantage of not joining the agreement.
He said 195 countries signed the agreement at the Paris Summit and Iran was among the first signatory countries to ratify the Paris Agreement ratified by 181 countries by September 28, 2018. But this has not happened yet in Iran.
'According to the Paris Agreement, we said that by 2030, we would reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by about 4 percent, which is very small compared to other countries.'
