Official lauds Iran- Netherlands cordial relations
Tehran, Member of Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati said on Wednesday that the relationship between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Netherlands is very good and dates back to 400 years ago.
Velayati made the remarks in a meeting with Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigrid Kaag on Wednesday.
The prospect of relations between the two countries mainly in cultural affairs is promising, Velayati said.
Iran has very good memories of the Netherlands' s stance on Iran which is of great importance, he said.
Referring to deeply rooted relations between the two countries, he described them as very positive and expressed the hope that the Dutch foreign minister would make use of her experiences at the UN to help resolve regional issues.
The Dutch foreign minister, for her part wished for expansion of relations and cooperation between the two sides.
Iran and the Netherlands are determined to expand cooperation through exchange of views in various cultural and technological fields, she said.
Existing relations should be upgraded dramatically, she said adding that Iran which plays a very prominent role in regional and global developments should improve its relations, she said.
She also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families of a plane crash in Iran claiming the lives of all passengers and crew members on board.
Exchange of views between Iran and the Netherlands would create a deeper understanding of regional developments in west Asia mainly in Syria and Yemen, she said.
