Over one ton of narcotics seized in southeast Iran province
Zahedan, One ton and 129 kilograms of illicit drugs were seized during separate operations by police forces southeast of Iran, a provincial police commander said on Tuesday.
The anti-drug squad in Iranshahr town in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Balouchestan obtained information about smuggling activities of a big band and started operations to stop them.
On Tuesday, the police inspected the smugglers' vehicles and seized 423.700 kilograms of opium from one of the vehicles.
In the meantime, the police's anti-drug forces in a separate operation in the rural areas of Mehrestan confiscated 414.846 kilograms of opium and 291.195 kilograms of Hashish.
In the operation, three smugglers were arrested and a number of arms and ammunitions confiscated by the police forces.
Sistan and Baluchestan is located in the southeast of the country, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The province is the second largest province in Iran with an area of 180,726 square km and a population of 2.5 million.
