Over one ton of opium seized in S Iran
Bandar Abbas, Chief of police in southern Iranian province of Hormozgan announced on Sunday that law enforcement agents managed to detect and seize some 1,340 kilograms of opium.
Azizullah Maleki told police forces were informed that drug traffickers had offloaded cargos of opium along the coastal city and were gradually transferring the cargo to the neighboring provinces.
Two vehicles belonging to the traffickers were confiscated, but the drug dealers took advantage of the darkness to escape.
Manhunt to arrest the dealers on the loose is underway, Maleki said.
Over the current year, 44 tons of opium have been confiscated in Hormozgan.
