Pak ex-envoy terms resilience of Iranian nation as exemplary
Islamabad, Former ambassador of Pakistan to Iran has described resilience of the Iranian nation after Islamic Revolution as 'exemplary.'
In an exclusive interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Shamshad Ahmad Khan said that Iranian nation has successfully and courageously faced all pressures and challenges against them.
Iran is currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of the victory of Islamic Revolution in 1979 that toppled the US-backed Shah and overturned 2,500 years of monarchical rule.
Shamshad Ahmad Khan added that since the victory of the Islamic Revolution Iranian nation has displayed excellent resistance to protect its interests.
I started my diplomatic carrier from Iran way back in 1967 and had witnessed the movement of the Islamic Revolution by myself, former foreign secretary said. He said that in 1967 as diplomats we were of the view that revolution was inevitable in Iran.
The analyst said that everyone knows that Iran is an independent nation and 1967 was a time when some powers were trying to assert themselves on Iranian nation which ultimately led to the Islamic Revolution.
Ex-Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations said that he was appointed to Iran as ambassador after ten years of the Islamic Revolution and he served there for six years.
Shamshad Ahmad Khan added that he had spent overall eight years in Iran as a diplomat and saw the pre- and post-Islamic Revolution era very closely.
Former ambassador said that Iran and Pakistan are very closely linked and the historic relationship between the two countries has deep roots in people to people contact.
We are also linked through geographical location as we share a long border and we have an excellent relation with Iran which is without any conflicts, the diplomat noted.
The expert on international affairs said that after the Islamic Revolution Iranian nation has shown an exceptional resilience. He went on to say that exceptional circumstances had led to Islamic Revolution in Iran as the people of Iran were not ready to compromise their independence.
The diplomat stated that due to important geopolitical location of Iran the country had faced many international pressures and challenges. He said that as Iran and Pakistan share same geopolitical locations so they also share common challenges.
Pakistan should also learn from the resistance of Iran, he stressed. He strongly believed that Iran and Pakistan instead of fighting the challenges individually should unite to confront all the challenges against them which would also bring stability in the region.
He added that Iran and Pakistan are two important countries of the region and the world. He said that Iran and Pakistan should work together to solve the regional problems and the problems of the Muslim world.
Former ambassador was of the view that Iran and Pakistan should unite Muslim countries in the larger interest of Ummah. We have to think upper than the divisive tendencies, today there is a need for unity, he said.
Shamshad Ahmad Khan said, 'We have to shun our differences and forge a unity in order to survive.'
'Eventually we have to turn into a Muslim bloc so that we could play a role in global decision making, said the former ambassador.
