Pak PM congratulates India’s Modi on election victory
Islamabad, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the victory in general election.
'I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the electoral victory of BJP and allies,' he tweeted.
'Look forward to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia,' Prime Minister Imran Khan said.
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed victory in the country's elections, promising an 'inclusive' future after his party appeared headed for a landslide win.
Earlier in a sign of deescalation in tensions between Pakistan and India, the foreign ministers of the two countries shook hands with each other on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Kyrgyzstan.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan Foreign Office (FO), Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi shook hands with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and discussed matters of mutual interest during the meeting.
During the meeting, Qureshi reiterated Pakistan's resolve for a meaningful dialogue between the two nations.
