PM mourns loss of lives in landslides

DHAKA, June 13, 2017 (BSS) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today expressed her profound shock at the death of many people in Chittagong, Rangamati and Bandarban following series of landslides triggered by torrential rains.

The Prime Minister, now on her way to London en route Stockholm in a bilateral visit to Sweden, offered her sympathy to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul, according to a release of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The Prime Minister asked all concerned officials to take immediate steps to rescue people trapped under rubbles and ensure their proper treatment.

She also asked the officials for taking necessary measures for last rituals of the deceased.

Torrential rains overnight triggered a series of landslides in southeastern Bangladesh hills killing some 50 people including two army officers in Chittagong, Rangamati and Bandarban, officials said.
