Police discovers over 10 tons of narcotics in northern Iran

Gorgan, Police commander in Golestan provincial capital of Gorgan announced on Tuesday the police in the northern province has busted 21 drug smuggling rings since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21).

Brigadier General Ali Akbar Javidan said that 10.2 tons of narcotics have also been seized and forty-eight smugglers arrested.

The discovered drugs consisted of 6.5 tons of opium, 1.8 tons of hashish and 1.7 tons of morphine, he said.
