Damascus, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said on Monday that the Iranian people and government thoroughly understand the root cause of the Syrian crisis and have spared no efforts to help his country.

Syrian president made the remarks in a meeting with the head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi in Damascus on Monday.

The Iranian Supreme Leader completely understands the Syrian crisis which indicates his vigilance and rationality, President Assad said.

The Syrian army and its allies strongly stood against terrorism and we are now approaching towards final triumph, he said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran was beside Syria in the fight against terrorism and the country is also to play significant role in the reconstruction era, he said.

More enmity with Syria will make the Syrian government and its nation firmer in the fight against terrorism, he said.

Boroujerdi, for his part, called the plots masterminded by the US and its allies in the region and in the fight against Syria as failure.

The humiliating defeats by the aggressors proved the strength of the Resistance in fight against terrorism, Boroujerdi said.

The Islamic Republic of Iran is to do its utmost to resolve the Syrian crisis through political means and believes that the Syrian nation should make decision for its fate while respecting the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty, he said.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the latest developments and the recent victories in Syria and voiced willingness to broaden parliamentary cooperation and relations between Iran and Syria.
