President in a meeting with Cyprus parliament speaker:Foreign intervention the root of region issues
"Iran welcomes developing ties with Cyprus and all potentials should be used in this regard," said President Rouhani in a meeting with the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Demetris Syllouris.
In the meeting that was held on Tuesday in Tehran, Dr Rouhani said: "Deepening Cyprus-Iran ties can connect the Middle East to Europe and Africa".
"Private sectors of Iran and Cyprus can cooperate and partner up and use the potentials of various sectors such as road, air and maritime transportation and providing technical and engineering services to complement each others economies," he said, referring to the need to encourage private sectors of Iran and Cyprus to cooperate.
Dr Rouhani also mentioned various cultural, historical and natural attractions in Iran and Cyprus, saying: "With regard to fascinating and positive history of relations between the two countries, there is no obstacle on the way of developing ties".
On the root of regional issues and problems, he also said that foreign intervention is the root cause, adding: "To achieve a bright future and welfare and progress in the countries of the region, establishing durable peace and security is the only way and the whole world should cooperate and contribute to it".
"It is very unfortunate that millions of innocent people in countries of the region such as Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Libya are displaced, facing abundant hardships," he added.
Ate the same meeting the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Demetris Syllouris said: "Cyprus is ready and determined to promote the level of cooperation and relations with Iran to develop bilateral ties and resolve regional issues".
Describing Iran as a great, civilised and historical country, he said that Cyprus welcomes cementing cultural ties and supports private sectors cooperation.
"Everybody should know that resorting to military solutions in the region creates new problems and we should only look for rational and political solutions," Syllouris continued.
