President: Rasht-Astara railway project significant step
Tehran, - Iran's President emphasized the need for efforts to exponentially expand the relations and cooperation of Tehran-Baku, saying that the railway project of Rasht-Astara is an important step for the region and securing the interests of the two nations.
In his meeting with visiting Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on Saturday, Hassan Rouhani expressed satisfaction with the development of the positive relations and vigor created in the two countries' cooperation, and stated, 'The will of the Islamic Republic of Iran's authorities is to exponentially expand and strengthen the relations of all-out ties with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The president, pointing out that significant projects and projects are in progress with the cooperation of the two countries, highlighted the opening of Qazvin-Rasht railway, adding that Rasht-Astara railway project is also an important step for the region and in the interests of the two nations, and expressed hope that its implementation starts as soon as possible.
Iran's top official stressed the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the construction of dam and power plant as well as in the field of energy, and emphasized the need for efforts to implement and put in to stream the agreements in this regard.
The President pointed out that Iran and Azerbaijan are pursuing peace and stability along with the rights of the people in regional and international issues.
Referring to the necessity of trying to strengthen the relations and the trilateral cooperation of Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia, President Rouhani said, 'There are various projects in the region that we can follow them in a tripartite and multilateral way, and the authorities of the two countries must increase their interactions in line with develop and expand these collaborations more and more.'
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadiyev, for his part, mentioned the fraternal and expanding relations between the two countries, saying there are no obstacles to the development of political, economic, cultural and social relations between Tehran and Baku.
The Foreign Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan said the construction of join Rasht-Astara railroads project is as an important and strategic project in the region.
He added, 'By implementation of the railway, Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran will connect each other and vie Georgia they connect to Black Sea.'
Azerbaijan's foreign minister emphasized the cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in various sectors, including the Caspian Sea, and the construction of a dam and power plant, and stated that the implementation of agreements and joint projects and plans, economic and commercial relations would be further developed.
Mammadiyev submitted the official invitation of Azeri President Ilham Aliyev to his Iranin counterpart for participation of President Rouhani at the Non-Allied Movement (NAM) Summit to be held in Baku.
