President Rouhani slams recent riots in northern Tehran
Tehran, President Hassan Rouhani strongly condemned violent acts committed by any group, saying that his government won't tolerate this kind of behavior and insulting the police which protect security and order in society in any way.
The president was addressing a cabinet session on Wednesday in which ministers of Interior and Intelligence presented reports on Monday night riots in northern Tehra.
President Rouhani sympathized with the bereaved families of the victims of the deadly incident.
He also urged the related organizations to reinforce national unity and increase convergence.
In one of the streets of northern Tehran, there was a riot on Monday night. The riot was subdued by the security forces after a few hours and the main instigators were arrested, spokesman of the Iranian police Saeed Montazerolmahdi earlier said.
In the unrest, started by a group of dervishes, five of the law enforcement forces were killed in bus and car attack and also stabbing, 30 were injured, and some of the rioters were injured as well, he said.
Public property, people's cars and homes were also damaged by the rioters, said the spokesman.
