Putin highlights Iran’s role in addressing Syrian crisis
Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin in a press conference on four-way meeting on Syria on Saturday underlined Iran's role in settling Syrian crisis.
During the conference attended by French, German and Turkish presidents in Istanbul, he said that in the absence of Iran, it is not possible to address Syrian crisis.
Iran is one of the three guarantor states of Astana Peace Process for solving Syrian issues and without Iran, the problem will not be solved effectively, Putin said.
Elsewhere in his speech, Putin hoped that Syrian Constitutional Committee would be set up and start work by the end of the year.
He recalled that agreement for establishment of Syrian Constitution Committee was achieved in Sochi.
The four-nation summit on Syria between Turkey, Russia, Germany, and France ended in Istanbul on Saturday.
The summit, hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Vahdettin Pavilion in the city's Uskudar district and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and French President Emmanuel Macron lasted two hours and 45 minutes.
Speaking at a joint news conference after the summit, Erdogan said the summit was aimed at reaching a full ceasefire to halt bloodshed in Syria.
