Raisi says grounds prepared for reinforcing Iran-Iraq ties

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said thanks to historical and cultural commonalities, today grounds have been prepared for strengthening relations between Iran and Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

Speaking in a meeting with President of Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani, Raisi expressed dissatisfaction over level of interactions between Iran and KRG, saying a definite mechanism should be adopted for taking advantage of all capacities.

He lauded the efforts made by Martyr Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani for thwarting Daesh sedition in Iraq and KRG.

He noted that arrogant states have never been able to take effective step for solving insecurity in the region.

He reiterated that regional states should stand against arrogant powers’ interference.

Meanwhile, Barzani said KRG is determined to open a new chapter in economic, cultural and political ties with Iran.

He noted that Iraqi Kurdistan Region is committed to Iran’s security.

Referring to General Soleimani’s role in safeguarding KRG and Iraq, he said Kurdistan region will never let an insecurity from its soil against Iran.

In a separate meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh Shahriar Alam, Raisi stressed Tehran determination for developing ties with Dhaka.

He said that Iran welcomes maintaining cooperation and investment with Bangladesh.

He praised Bangladesh support for displaced people of Myanmar.

Meanwhile, Alam said Bangladesh is after Iran participation in developing economy.

In the meantime, Raisi in a meeting with Job Yustino Ndugai and Zubeir Ali Maulid, the speakers of Tanzania and Zanzibar parliaments called for developing cooperation.

He stated that parliamentary relations will help promote bilateral and regional interactions.

The speakers of Tanzania and Zanzibar parliaments hoped for developing bilateral relations, especially in the economic field.
