Russia favors boosting ties with Iran in context of SCO
Moscow, Chairman of the Committee on Education and Science at the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Nikonov recalled his country interest in further development of ties with neighboring states within the framework of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), saying that Moscow favors enhancement of relations with Iran through the entity.
He made the remarks in a trilateral meeting of Iranian, Indian and Russian experts and officials in Moscow on Saturday.
He further noted that cooperation between Iran and Russia is growing every day, as they have close collaboration in settlement of Syrian crisis and Caspian Sea issues.
Referring to his efforts to help promote ties with Iran, Nikonov added that India is another major partner of Russia and New Delhi has been threatened by the US for its cooperation with Tehran.
Condemning US sanctions against Russia, he said that Moscow has been facing US sanctions for a long time, as it has experienced over 60 packages of sanctions since 2014.
Despite US dissatisfaction with Iran-Russia nuclear cooperation, Moscow is cooperating with Iran in Bushehr power plant, he said, noting, The US is seeking to create obstacles in the way of our cooperation.
We should find a comprehensive framework for our cooperation in the financial sector, Nikonov said.
Iran-India-Russia expert meeting was held in Moscow for two days as of Friday.
