Russia, Iran to facilitate grain trade

Moscow, IRNA - A recent memorandum of understanding between Russia and Iran will pave the way for the expansion of grain trade, an official says.

Alireza Ja'fari, Iran's representative in the Russian Grain Union, told IRNA on Sunday that since the Islamic Republic is one of the main importers of grains and livestock inputs, it should organize this trade; so, the Union and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding last week in order to develop economic cooperation.

He noted that the demands of Iranian importers will be announced to Russian producers and that the Russians will deliver grain at lower price levels.

The representative underlined that his team will try to remove language obstacles for Iranian importers and Russian exporters.

On September 28, Ja'fari and Arkady Zlochevsky, president of the Russian Grain Union, signed the MoU in Tehran; so, the Iranian traders can directly import grain and livestock inputs from Russia.

According to the MoU, the direct connection between Iranian importers and Russian exporters will provide the Iranians better situation to buy at a more appropriate price.

Pointing to the fact that Iran is the second importer of grain from Russia, Ja'fari noted that Russia is one of the main producing countries around the world, which has produced more than 110 million tons of grain per annum, exporting 45 million tons out of the amount to different countries.

The Iranian importers and economic actors can also get all the needed information from the representative office of the Russian Grain Union, he stipulated.

On Wednesday, Zlochevsky emphasized his visit to Iran proved the fact that economic and financial development in the Islamic Republic is beyond thinking and imagination.

Zlochevsky told IRNA that his experience of Iran's current situation was completely different from what he imagined and the routine coverage by foreign media.

"I traveled to Iran to take part in the first exclusive exhibition Eurasia Expo and found an opportunity to get acquainted with Iranian economic progress, he said, adding, "I never expected that the Iranian market is to that extent developed."
