Russia urges Iran Deal parties to commit to agreement
Moscow, The stance adopted by Russia and France on the Iran nuclear deal is similar, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, calling on all parties of the deal to stay committed to the international agreement.
Lavrov made the remarks in a joint press conference on Tuesday after talks with French Foreign Minister JeanYves Le Drian.
The Russian foreign ministry website quoted Lavrov as saying that the nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was among the topics discussed during the meeting with his French counterpart.
Russia and France have similar stances and the two sides urge all the other parties (Germany, UK and China) to stay committed to this agreement, he said.
All the JCPOA parties should take measures in order to keep the agreement alive despite US unilateral withdrawal and threatening the remaining parties to stop cooperation with Iran, he added.
US President Trump announced on May 8 the withdrawal from JCPOA, what was followed by other parties' condemnation as well as emphasis to stay in the agreement.
Brussels, in response, updated EU's Blocking Statute to let the Europebased enterprises to continue to work with Iran.
The Blocking Statute prohibits EU companies' compliance with US foreign sanctions and allows corporations to compensate for the loss inflicted on them.
