Russia: US after excuse to escalate tensions against Iran
Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said the US is after finding an excuse to escalate tensions with Iran by accusing Tehran of killing about 600 American soldiers in Iraq.
Addressing the weekly press conference, Maria Zakharova said that Moscow has been surprised by the claims made by Director of Policy Planning and Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary of State Brian Hook saying Tehran is responsible for killing 600 American soldiers.
She added that Russia has so far heard nothing about armed conflict between American and Iranian forces in Iraq.
Zakharova urged Russia partners in Washington to elaborate on their intention of Iran's participation in killing US soldiers.
Russia understands that antIran approach is in its higher level in the US, she said adding such remarks should have basis.
She called for US officials to be accountable for their remarks.
Russia is aimed at preventing the US of such measures, since they will have disastrous consequences for the Middle East.
Zakharova went on by raising the question what the US did in Iraq and why US attacked Iraq in 2003.
Despite the fact that there is no exact information on the death toll of war in Iraq, but hundreds of thousands of Iraqis were killed, she reiterated.
Zakharova advised the US not to seek new conflict by escalating its hostile policies.
