Russia Warplanes, Cruise Missiles Pound ISIS Positions in Syria
Russia's defense ministry confirmed on Thursday that it launched cruise missiles targeting Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) positions in Syria.
Russia jet fighters and long range bombers took part in the attack.
The ministry said in a statement that jets based on an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea and bombers which had taken off from Russian airfields thousands of kilometers away were both involved.
The Russian government did not specify the location of the targets in Syria but said that the airstrikes had destroyed military command centers, ammunition depots as well as military hardware.
