Russian Spox: US’ anti-Iran sanctions detrimental for region
Tehran, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova says the US' sanctions imposed on Iran are detrimental for the Middle East.
Speaking in her weekly press conference, Zakharova said the US' withdrawal from the nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was against the determinations of several countries.
She added that Washington's exit from the JCPOA was not in line with the interests of the US, instead, the move was aimed to meet the demands of a small group in that country.
The US President Donald Trump announced on May 8 that Washington was walking away from the nuclear agreement and he plans to reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose 'the highest level' of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.
Under the JCPOA, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.
