S-300 should have been delivered to Syria sooner: Syrian FM
Damascus, The Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal al Mekdad, says Syria is pleased to receive the S-300 missile system, but Russia had to deliver the air defense system 'since a very long time ago'.
According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), on the 69th anniversary of establishing People's Republic of China , al Mekdad said on Tuesday night that the S-300 missile system is a defensive system and 'Syria will defend itself as it has always done'.
He added that the tragic crash of the Russian plane opened the world's eyes to the Zionist regime's hostile acts and proved support of the US and the western countries for the Zionists' devastating policies on Syria.
Israel shot down a Russian military aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea. Following the incident, Russia announced it will deliver S-300 air defense system to Syria over the next two weeks.
The decision has sparked reaction of the US and the zionist regime and made them concerned.
'Israel which is accustomed to launch many aggressions under various pretexts will make accurate calculations if it thinks to attack Syria again,' SANA quoted Mikdad as saying.
He said attacking Syria amounts to attacking all troops who are fighting terrorism to restore security and stability to the country.
It is assumed that Syria's access to Russian air defense systems will prevent Israeli fighters from attacking the Arab country.
The S-300 missile system has high degree of reliability and it can hit targets up to 250 kilometers away.
