S Arabia keeps funding terrorism: Italian paper

Rome, Saudi Arabia continues to sponsor Sunni extremist and terrorist groups beyond its borders, according to Milan-based newspaper, il Giornale.

The Italian language daily said on Monday Saudi Arabia is not taking any measures to stop Riyadh's cash flow to Sunni extremist groups around the world.

The Saudis provide Wahhabi groups with large amounts of cash to achieve their geopolitical goals. Also by supporting Sunni extremist groups in Balochistan Province, which is the boundary between Pakistan and Iran, Saudi Arabia is escalating sectarian violence. Riyadh is also funding Sunni groups in the Syrian war.

This runs counter to the US president's recent claim made in his speech at the UN General Assembly Session.

Donald Trump said during his trip to Saudi Arabia last year, he learned the Gulf States have set up a new station to monitor terrorist financing, adding Riyadh is cooperating with Washington to help identify terrorist networks and combat terrorism and extremism in the region.
