SCO states support JCPOA
Tehran, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) memberstates in their final statement urged the signatories of Iran nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to comply with their commitments.
According to the statement, SCO members believe that implementation of the JCPOA should be a priority and within the framework of the United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSC) 2231.
They also urged all participants to be committed to implementing the document effectively.
The US president unilaterally withdrew from the multilateral nuclear deal with Iran on May 8, 2018, reimposing two rounds of sanctions on the country the second of which targeted Tehran's oil exports.
Exactly a year later, Iran announced that it would suspend some of its commitments under the deal in reaction to the US hostile measures.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said earlier that Iran will give a 60day moratorium to the states parties to Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to remedy their breaches and restore Iran's interests enshrined by the international deal.
Iranian Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) in a statement announced that Iran has stopped some of its commitments under the JCPOA as of May 8, 2019.
The 19th SCO Summit was held on June 1314 with presence of leaders of 11 countries, including Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan and Iran.
SCO is an intergovernmental organization which was founded for multilateral political, economic and security cooperation. China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and India are major members while, Iran, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Belarus serve as observers.
Rouhani will leave Bishkek for Dushanbe on the second leg of his trip to attend the Conference on Interaction and ConfidenceBuilding Measures in Asia (CICA).
CICA is an intergovernmental forum for enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security and stability in Asia.
Iran, Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, South Korea, China, Russia, India, Palestine, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan Republic and Thailand are among members of CICA.
