Shahid Khaqan Abbasi elected as Pakistan PM
Islamabad, Aug 1, - Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz candidate Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan on Tuesday.
He has been elected to the office having secured 221 votes out of a total house membership of 342.
Pakistani parliament had to go for the election after the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was disqualified from the Supreme Court in Panama Papers case.
Soon after the development the PML-N parliamentary committee nominated former Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for the slot of Prime Minister.
It is to be mentioned that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will serve as an interim Prime Minister until Shahbaz Sharif; the chief minister of Punjab province will be elected as member of National assembly to become the next prime minister of Pakistan.
