Spokesman: Iran pursuing detente policy in region

Tehran, July 24, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Monday that Iran's policy is based on restoration of regional security and stability and the country spares no efforts to interact with its neighboring countries.

To a question on a seized Saudi boat, Qasemi responded he has no information about that while adding that such events are natural in regions like Persian Gulf as waves and climate changes can cause such incidents.

Our policy is to reduce tension in the region and help to its stability, and we try to expand ties with our neighbors, the foreign ministry spokesman added.

He underlined that due to weather conditions such as sea waves and climate change, military or non-military vessels might change their route and penetrate into others' territorial waters that could be resolved through negotiations.

There is no direct political contact between Iran and Saudi Arabia, but we can send our messages through other channels to them, Qasemi said.
