Strategic Homs-Damascus Highway to be Reopened Soon by Syrian Army
Syrian Arab Army's 105th Brigade of the Republican Guard launched a new offensive to reopen the strategic Homs-Damascus Highway that is currently cutoff by the ISIS in Harasta.
Backed by the National Defense Forces, the Syrian Arab Army's 105th Brigade stormed Jaysh Al-Islam's (Army of Islam) defenses at Tal Abu Za'id, resulting in a fierce battle that is still ongoing near the key town of Harasta in the East Ghouta region of Damascus.
So far, no gains have been reported from this front; furthermore, the Syrian Armed Forces do plan on expanding their operations around the Harasta Industrial Zone after this offensive.
The hilltop of Tal Abu Za'id overlooks the Homs-Damascus Highway and since it is under the control of Jaysh Al-Islam, the Syrian Arab Army is unable to open the road to the public for fear of random rocket and artillery attacks, Almasdar reported.
