Supreme Leader rules out any talks with US

Tehran, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Saturday said assuming any talks or establishment of relations with the US is a blatant mistake as the US is fundamentally at odds with the principles of the Islamic system.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif, foreign ministry officials and Iranian ambassadors to other countries in Tehran on Saturday.

The main goal of Iran's foreign diplomacy should be maintaining and protecting the national interests of Iranian people, the Supreme Leader said.

All should spare no efforts to expand foreign relations with their sound revolutionary spirit, wise and oriented diplomacy with reliance on the country's political and diplomatic achievements, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Preserving religious thoughts and spiritual aspects of families are among the most important criteria of foreign ministry staffers overseas, the Supreme Leader said.

Foreign ministry and its ambassadors in particular should remain committed to the Islamic and revolutionary values as their deeds will reflect such values, the Supreme Leader said.

The main goal of the country's foreign diplomacy is to protect the country's national interests through having sound interaction with the international community, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

Referring to recent comments made by President Rouhani saying that 'If Iran's oil fails to be exported, no country in the region will do the same', the Supreme Leader said it is among main responsibilities of the foreign ministry to follow the president's stances.

Some individuals by mistaken call for segregation of diplomacy and ideology while there is nothing wrong with ideological-diplomacy and any friction between ideology and national interest is not correct and logical, the Supreme Leader said.

Ideology means meeting the country's national interests and should be regarded as a nation's identity, the Supreme Leader said.

The Americans in their speeches for many times claim the 'American values' which is their own ideology adopted by the US Independence Declaration and the same rules apply in the European countries and ideological thoughts overwhelm the deeds and treatment of their political activities, the Supreme Leader said.

Referring to the enemy's orchestrated non-stop psychological warfare, the Supreme Leader said in challenging issues, the aliens should be responded with logical and crushing responses.

Western countries are manifestation of violation of human rights, but with obscenity accuse Iran in an amazing manner, the Supreme Leader said.

The US is at odds with the principles of the Islamic system, the Supreme Leader said, referring to numrous countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America which are suffering from relations with the US.

The US is to revive its lost status in Iran dating back to before the Islamic revolution at any costs, said the Supreme Leader.

Iran's presence in the region is considered as the country's sign of power and security and that is why the enemies are opposed to it, Ayatollah Khamenei said.

For many times I have underlined that no one can trust the US' words and even their signature, consequently talks with the US will be useless, the Supreme Leader said.

The Supreme Leader also advised officials to continue talks with Europe, while adding that one should not wait for their proposed package, but take the required action inside the country.

Ambassadors and Iranian diplomat overseas should have full knowledge and supremacy over Iran's capabilities and capacities, the Supreme Leader said.

Iranian people are very talented and this reality should be taken into consideration, underlined Ayatollah Khamenei.
