Syrian envoy compares Trump’s Golan choice with Balfour Declaration
Tehran, Syria's permanent representative to the UN, Bashar alJaafari compared US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize sovereignty of Israel over Golan Heights with Balfour Declaration.
The main target of the terror war on Syria is to consolidate the Israeli occupation of the Arab territories and guarantee its continuation according to a USled agenda, the Syrian Arab News Agency quoted alJaafari as saying while addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
Trump tweeted on Thursday that after 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights.
The Balfour Declaration was a letter written in 1917 to Walter Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community and also a British Jewish MP, by the then British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour.
In the letter, Balfour wrote that the British government view with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object
AlJaafari added Trumps' proclamation about the occupied Syrian Golan has revealed the reality of the plot against Syria in particular and the region in general to consolidate a new reality similar to the SykesPicot agreement and the Balfour Declaration.
He affirmed that countries of the new colonial scheme have worked to implement their plans against Syria through mobilizing and supporting foreign terrorists, launching attacks on the Syrian territory , and forming an illegal coalition which had committed war crimes , in addition to imposing coercive economic measures to weaken the Syrian state.
The governments of countries hostile to Syria exploited the humanitarian situation and the suffering caused by their aggressive actions to defame the Syrian government's image and hinder its efforts to support and enable the Syrians overcome the crisis.
The Syrian government has taken all needed measures to evacuate the besieged citizens of alRukban camp and end their suffering, and it calls on the Security Council to press the US side and allow residents of the camp freely move as well as guaranteeing the safety of the humanitarian staff, alJaafari noted.
He affirmed that the Syrian government is ready to cooperate with the UN Special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen to make his mission a success in facilitating the SyrianSyrian dialogue and reach a political solution that comes in the interests of the Syrians and preserves Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Earlier, Spokesman of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Bahram Qasemi said that the impetuous personal decisions of US President Donald Trump is pushing the sensitive region of the Middle East toward consecutive crises.
He condemned occupying of lands in any form and added, 'The interventionist decision of the US president never changes the fact that the Golan Heights belong to Syria, rather it clearly shows the failure of compromising policies while proving the correctness of the path of resistance against the expansionist and aggressive conduct of the US and the Zionist regime.'
