Trump takes U-turn on Syria
Tehran, IRNAUS President Donald Trump has modified his stance and war rhetoric on Syria.
Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all!,' he said in a tweet on Thursday.
'In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of the ISIS,' he added.
Trump threatened Russia that it should be ready for the missiles that Washington will fire at Syria in response to an alleged chemical weapons attack near Damascus. He has blamed the alleged strike on Syria.
Following the claims by Trump, White House spokeswoman, Sarah Sanders, and the defence secretary, James Mattis, implicitly rejected Trump's vows on striking Syria.
'All options are on the table and a final decision hasn't been made,' Sanders said.
Mattis said the US was 'still assessing intelligence' on the chemical attack on Douma.
In response to Trumps hawkish rhetoric, Russia's ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Zasypkin said that any US missiles fired at Syria would be shot down and the launch sites targeted.
