UN chief: Iran Deal major diplomatic achievement
New York UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has hailed the July 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers as a 'major achievement of nuclear non-proliferation and diplomacy,' his spokesman said.
The (nuclear deal) constitutes a major achievement of nuclear non-proliferation and diplomacy, and has contributed to regional and international peace and security, Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters on Wednesday on the second anniversary of the implementation of the nuclear deal , known also as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), according to the news agencies.
Guterres called for concerns relating to the implementation of the nuclear deal to be addressed through the mechanisms established by the agreement, Dujarric said.
'The secretary-general remains convinced that the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) is the best way to ensure the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program and to realize the promised tangible economic benefits for the Iranian people,' he said.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that European allies and Congress have to work with him to fix the disastrous flaws in the nuclear pact or face a US exit.
Trump is after changing the text of the international nuclear accord.
Iran has repeatedly stressed that the JCPOA is not renegotiable.
