UN urges exemption of Humanitarian aids from sanctions
New York, Chef de Cabinet to United Nations Secretary General conveyed sympathy and solidarity of the UN chief Antonio Guterres over recent floods in Iran, stressing that humanitarian aids should be excluded from sanctions.
Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti made the remarks in a phone call with Iran's charge d'affaires to the United Nations Eshagh Al Habib.
Viotti underlined UN readiness to cooperate with Iran in rendering aids to the floodhit areas in the country.
Meanwhile, Al Habib appreciated UN official's message, noting that Iranian people and government have made all their attempts to stand against this natural disaster.
Undoubtedly, Iranian welcomes any international aids and cooperation, he added.
He reiterated that unfortunately, US illegal and unilateral sanctions have impeded humanitarian aids from humanitarian bodies to Iran.
Al Habib urged the UN to take action in this regard.
The US has imposed the most unilateral sanctions against individuals and institutions in the world.
US sanctions against Iran consist of banking, shipping, airline, oil sale and petrochemical sector.
Sanctions have also impeded humanitarian aids issuance in a way that Head of Iran Red Crescent Society Ali Asghar Peyvandi earlier said that the society had SWIFT accounts before sanctions through which they could attract global aids.
He added that the mentioned accounts have been sanctioned which made impossible money transfer from other countries and also International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Meanwhile earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote on his Twitter account @realDonaldTrump 's 'maximum pressure'flouting UNSC Res 2231 & ICJ rulingis impeding aid efforts by #IranianRedCrescent to all communities devastated by unprecedented floods. Blocked equipment includes relief choppers.
Unprecedented heavy rains caused floods in various parts of Iran over the past two weeks. Scores of people were killed and injured and a large number were displaced across Iran.
