UNGA Chief voices regret over US’ withdrawal policy
New York, The President of the United Nations General Assembly Miroslav Lajcak has expressed regret over the US walkaway from the UN bodies and international agreements.
He referred to his meeting with the US President Donald Trump last year, saying he explicitly mentioned that the UN is playing major role in international affairs and all its capacities should be used.
But the US has recently pulled out of some UN affiliated bodies and the United Nations Human Rights Council, Lajcak said.
Since Trumps has taken office he has left international agreements like Paris Agreement, NAFTA, Trans-Pacific Partnership and Iran nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
He also walked away from such international bodies as the UNESCO and the United Nations Human Rights Council, cut aids to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and threatened International Criminal Court (ICC).
