UNICEF, Iran, Iraq to jointly conduct mine countermeasures

Tehran, The United Nation's Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq met on Wednesday to examine how to conduct minesweeping measures on border regions.

'If this trilateral cooperation to be coordinated with other UN agencies, it will be possible to obtain technical and international funds for the project,' said UNICEF Representative to Iran Will Parks on Wednesday after talks at Iran's Interior Ministry.

UNICEF has entered into talks with German, French, Swiss, South Korean, Australian and Japanese embassies about the project, he said.

Parks said that antimine project includes issues such as Mine Risk Education (MRE) and demining of minefields.
