US, French presidents discuss Iran, other issues on the phone

Tehran, US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in a phone conversation discussed various issues including Iran, Reuters quoted White House statement as saying on Friday.

'Had a very good phone call with @EmmanuelMacron, President of France. Discussed various subjects, in particular Security and Trade,' Trump wrote in his Twitter account on Saturday.

The two leaders discussed a broad range of trade and security issues, including the situation in Iran and the broader Middle East, Reuters quoted the White House as saying in a statement.

Reuters also referred to the statement released by the Elysee Palace saying the two leaders discussed Syria, Iran and the Israel-Palestinian conflict, but did not mention trade.

After Washington's May 8 pullout from the landmark Iran Deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the US gave 90 to 180 wind-down period to other countries before it starts re-imposing oil sanctions on Tehran on November 4.

According to Reuters, Macron and Trump are at odds over the US decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and reimpose sanctions on Tehran.
