US ‘Texan hegemony’ doomed to failure: Former Irnian envoy
Tehran, 'Texan hegemony' and 'gangster trade' in today's balanced world are doomed to isolation and failure, a former Iranian envoy to China said, adding that finding a quick solution to the Korean issue is not likely due to the North Korea's distrust in the US.
The agreement between Donald Trump and his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong-Un is not a deal, rather it is a minutes of meeting; in other words, it is a preliminary step towards a long, difficult path, Fereydoun Vardinejad told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
'Despite the propaganda and political optimism, the geopolitical and geostrategic realities of the region dictate something else,' he said.
Several decades of skepticism and hostility, as well as the-finger-on-the-trigger strategies along the borders of the two Koreas caused by US provocations, will not be changed in short term, he said, so the idea of establishing peace in the Korean peninsula seems a bit utopian.
Moreover, China would not agree to a Korea's resolution as long as the Taiwan issue is not resolved, the former Ambassador believes.
'The recent trade war has also made the situation more complicated,' Vardinejad said, 'after all, resolving the nuclear issue and the two Koreas' unity imposes costs which would not be accepted by Seoul, Tokyo or any other party.'
He said that 'the Koreans' distrust in the US lies in Washington's disloyalty to [deals it had with] Iran and China; besides, the First Strike doctrine of Bush administration against independent countries, would not let the Korean socialists trust the White House.'
'There is no doubt that causing American insecurity in countries would also make Washington and Tel Aviv insecure,' the former diplomat said.
'Trump's style and his impatient, hasty White House team render the reign of Republicans short, tense and insecure; the American public opinion will prove in the coming election in November that bullying, hooliganism and Texan approach are doomed to failure,' he said.
