Western Iran rocked by 40 aftershocks
Kermanshah During the past three and a half hours since a moderate earthquake hit the city of Sumar in western Iran, 40 aftershocks have been registered in the region.
A 5.6 magnitude earthquake rocked Sumar in the Iranian western Province of Kermanshah at 10:29 am local time (6:59 GMT) on Thursday.
Head of Kermanshah seismological centre Farhad Forouzi told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that eight aftershocks were above four magnitude.
He said that more aftershocks with the magnitude of 3 and higher are probable.
'All the tremors are in fact the aftershocks of the 7.3-magnitude quake that hit the region on November 12, 2017' he said.
The November deadly quake hit the city of Ezgeleh killing at least 620 people and injuring over 12,000.
