Workers the pillar of realisation of Resistive Economy, building a strong Iran/ Instructing labour minister to pursue workers’ job security

Emphasising that all the concerns and problems of the workers’ community should be addressed with the focus on justice, the President said, “Increasing workers’ job security is one of the important concerns of workers and one of the priorities of the government and the Ministry of Labour, Cooperatives and Social Affairs should seriously address workers’ concerns in this regard”.

Speaking in a meeting on Tuesday evening at the beginning of Labour Week, which was held in one of the tire factories in Tehran to praise workers, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said, “The worker is the pillar of production, and in the verses of the Qur’an, the manners of the Imams and in the discourse of Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader, labour and workers have a worthy and high position”.

Dr Raisi said that praising workers should not be limited to the Labour Week, adding, “Workers are the focus of achieving the Economy of Resistance and building an independent and strong country and economic security, so all of us, especially government officials should think about improving workers’ livelihoods”.

The President stated that the Popular Government has always emphasised that justice is the focus of its plans for growth and development, adding that all workers’ issues, including the issues raised at this meeting, should be resolved with the focus on justice.

The President clarified, “Issues such as insurance, social and medical services to workers and timely payment of wages are among the issues that should be a priority for labour officials”.

Referring to the issue of job security of workers, which was also raised as a concern by all representatives of trade unions, the President clarified, “I urge the Minister of Labour to address this concern taking into account all the requirements and aspects of the issue”.

Dr Raisi mentioned more attention to education and skills development, improving the safety and health conditions of the workplace, and providing workers’ housing as other issues that should be seriously pursued by labour officials.

He said, “The annual construction of one million housing units is what the country needs, a part of the government’s plans and our legal duty based on the parliament’s law”.

Referring to another concern raised at the meeting about manpower brokerage by employment intermediaries, he added, “The Minister of Labour should cooperated with labour organisations and activate the employment system of this ministry to remove manpower brokers as soon as possible so that workers can find jobs in the comprehensive system of work without intermediaries”.

The President described the prevention of illegal imports as a very important and pivotal issue and said, “Preventing illegal imports is a prerequisite for the prosperity of productive activities and the relevant ministers should seriously pursue this issue”.

Referring to the statistics provided by the Minister of Cooperatives, Labour and Social Welfare on the improvement of employment and production indicators in recent months, the President said, “These statistics show that workers and economic activists in the year of ‘Production; Employment, Knowledge Based’ have realised the Supreme Leader’s remarks, which is commendable”.
