Xinhua calls for more co-op with IRNA
Beijing, Head of Chinese news agency Xinhua called for more cooperation with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
Cai Mingzhao in a meeting with Zia Hashemi, IRNA's managing director said, 'IRNA is a credible media outlet in Iran and the region'.
He also called for more cooperation between the two news agencies, particularly on new media.
He said that Xinhua is trying to reflect the true image of Iran when the Western media are attempting a tarnished image of the country.
Cai also expressed readiness to sign a new memorandum of understanding with IRNA in his next visit to Tehran.
Hashemi who was visiting China to participate in two international and regional forums said that when a country, like Iran, wants to preserve its independence, it is targeted by attacks from big powers such as the US.
In such campaigns, Western media play a major role, he said.
He also welcomed the cooperation offer from his Chinese counterpart, saying that IRNA is ready to cooperate with the agency in reflecting the good image of China as a 'powerful, independent and successful country'.
Hashemi participated in the summit of Asian media, as well as Boao Forum for Asia, which was held in Hainan Island on April 8-11.
Launched in 2001, Boao has been considered as a platform to build Asian consensus, promote regional cooperation and advance the continent's influence on the world stage.
