Zarif extends condolences over Annan’s demise
Tehran, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message expressed condolences over the death of the ex-UN chief Kofi Annan who passed away at 80 on Saturday.
'Extremely saddened by passing of Kofi Annan, a toweing global leader and an unwavering champion for peace, justice and rule of law. Rest in peace my dear old friend,' Zarif wrote in his Twitter account on Saturday.
'Kofi Annan was a global statesman and a deeply committed internationalist who fought throughout his life for a fairer and more peaceful world. During his distinguished career and leadership of the United Nations he was an ardent champion of peace, sustainable development, human rights and rule of law,' the late Kofi Annan Twitter account reported.
'After stepping down from the United Nations, he continued to work tirelessly in the cause of peace through his chairmanship of Kofi Annan Foundation and chair of The Elders, the group founded by Nelson Mandela. He was an inspiration to young and old alike.'
