Iranian champion beats world silver medal holder

Tehran, IRNA – Iran athlete Ali Savadkouhi beat world silver medal holder in final of 2023 Zagreb Open Freestyle Championship to win the games’ gold medal in his weight.

In 2nd four weights of these games, which also have the United World Wrestling (UWW) ranking, on Thursday afternoon in Zagreb, Croatia, on the second day of the game Ali Savadkouhi, Amir-Ali Azarpira, and Amir-Hossein Zarea were the three Iranian athletes who reached the final games.

Yesterday (on Wednesday), too, Iran’s Hassan Yazdani and Reza Atri won gold medals and Yunes Emami won a bronze medal.

In 79kg weight Ali Savadkouhi in his first game beat Pi Long Lee from China 10-nil and in his second game beat Saifuddin Alkema from France 11-0 to reach the semi-final.

In the semi-final Savadkouhi beat the U23 world champion from Georgia, Vladimir Gameker Lizze 10-1 to reach the final. In the final he faced the world silver medal winner Avtandil Kentchadze.

Savadkouhi who had this year managed to beat the Olympics champion Zaurbek Kazbekovich Sidakov from Russia in Iran Westling League and the unbeatable US wrestler Jordan Baroz, in the final match beat Kentchadze 2-1 to win another precious gold medal for this good wrestler from Mazandaran province.

Iran has also two chances for gold medals in 97 and 125kg weights by Amir-Ali Azarpira and Amir-Hossein Zarea in the finals of their weights.
