Iranian wrestler receives Olympic gold after 10 years

Tehran, IRNA – Komeil Ghasemi, Iranian Olympian and Bronze medalist in London 2012 Olympic Games, received his gold medal after 10 years due to positive doping tests of the contestants.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) sent a letter to President of the Iran’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) Reza Salehi Amiri last year, announcing the completion of the doping investigation of the Uzbek athlete Arthur Taymazov and the Georgian athlete Davit Modzamanashvili.

Farid Fattahian, international relations director at NOC, confirmed to IRNA on Wednesday that Salehi Amiri received Ghasemi’s gold medal during his trip to Lausanne, Switzerland.

Originally the third-place holder in 120 kg of London 2012, Ghasemi is now officially considered the gold medal winner and the most decorated heavyweight wrestles in Iran’s history.
