Seine water “safe” to resume triathlon Olympic event

Organizers of the 2024 Paris Olympics announced Wednesday that triathlon competitions would proceed as scheduled after being delayed due to pollution in the Seine River.

According to a joint statement released by the Paris Olympics and the World Triathlon, as reported by BFM TV, stakeholders have confirmed that the women’s and men’s triathlon races would take place on Wednesday as planned and without further delay, assuring that the results of the latest water test show that the River is safe.

The men’s competition, initially scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed due to high pollution rates in the Seine River, which did not meet international swimming standards, as the postponement was attributed to heavy rainfall on the official opening day of the Olympics and the following day, which altered the water’s quality and forced organizers to reschedule the event.

Paris has experienced unusually heavy rain in recent weeks, particularly on July 26 and 27, which led to increased pollution levels in the Seine River
, with untreated sewage overflowing into the River.
