The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has released the 3rd "Digital and Space Sustainability in Saudi Arabia" report, highlighting Saudi Arabia's most significant initiatives in digital sustainability. Developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the report presents 13 success stories from 16 entities in the country's public and private sectors, covering environmental, economic, and social sustainability aspects. It also underscores the importance of innovative solutions in the IT and space sectors in realizing sustainable development goals, as 70% of these goals are dependent on digital technologies, while 40% of them stand to gain from data obtained through space technologies. These include earth observation through satellites, positioning and navigation, satellite communications, space exploration, and gravity-related research. The report provides an overview of the current digital susta inability landscape and highlights CST's efforts to leverage modern technologies to develop innovative business models that contribute to creating a sustainable future. This endeavor is consistent with CST's digital sustainability strategy (C.I.R.C.L.E.S.), which entails the promotion of circular digital economy initiatives, the introduction of the first global guide for developing digital sustainability strategies, the formulation of regulations to reduce electronic waste in three countries, and the co-hosting, with the Saudi Space Agency, of the Global Space Debris Conference to enhance awareness about the challenges and risks posed by growing space debris and its impact on the space future.
