Ali Larijani: A Pragmatic Voice in Iranian Politics

Tehran: Marking the 40th day since the martyrdom of Ali Larijani, one of Iran's most influential political figures, attention turns to a career that spanned decades across cultural, media, and political institutions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Larijani was known for his pragmatic approach and efforts to balance competing political factions, playing key roles in shaping Iran's policy and governance. Born in 1958 in Najaf into a prominent clerical family, he grew up in an environment closely tied to the intellectual and ideological foundations of the Islamic Republic, a background that would later influence his long and multifaceted political career. On March 17, 2026, Larijani, the then Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, was assassinated in Tehran as part of a series of US-Israeli airstrikes.
