Arab Leaders to Convene in Riyadh to Address Trump’s Controversial Gaza Plan

Riyadh: Arab leaders are scheduled to convene in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Friday to discuss countering a scheme by U.S. President Donald Trump to 'take ownership' of the Gaza Strip and permanently displace its inhabitants.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, leaders from the Arab states of the Persian Gulf region, alongside Egypt and Jordan, will meet upon a request by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This meeting is set within the framework of 'close brotherly relations' to formulate a response to Trump's plan.

The Saudi state news agency SPA has reported that the discussions will focus on an Egyptian proposal regarding the issue. This follows a February 11 meeting in Washington, where Jordan's King Abdullah II indicated that Egypt would present a plan on the matter.

President Trump recently stated that the US should 'take ownership' of the Gaza Strip and displace its more than 2 million Palestinian inhabitants. He has proposed that neighboring countries, Jordan and Egypt, should accommodate the displaced Palestinians. This plan has sparked widespread outrage throughout the Muslim world and globally.
