The Arab League and the European Union have held the closing meeting of the second phase of their cooperation project, which is focused on combating the illicit trade and proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Arab League member states. The meeting, which took place at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, was organized by the league's Department of Arms Control and Disarmament in collaboration with EU and other key partners, including Interpol, the World Customs Organization, and the Small Arms Survey Program. During the two-day event, which ran from August 25 to 26, officials evaluated the outcomes of the second phase of the project and discussed avenues of further cooperation in tackling the illegal arms trade. In recognition of their support, Assistant Secretary General and head of the International Political Affairs Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Khalid bin Mohammed Manzalawi honored the heads of delegations from Jordan, the UAE, and Morocco for their countries' efforts to advance the project's goals. This meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to strengthen international collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by illicit small arms and light weapons in the region.
