The Arab Parliament strongly condemned the statements made by an Israeli minister calling for the construction of a synagogue within Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. In a statement issued today, the parliament stated that the remarks are provocative, dangerous, and pose a direct threat to the historical and legal status quo in the city of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. It stressed that such statements are part of the occupying forces' continuous attempts to alter the Arab identity of Jerusalem and deprive Palestinians of their rights, and warned about the serious repercussions they will have on peace and stability in the region, and on the ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. The Arab Parliament called on the international community and institutions to urgently intervene and halt such statements and practices that could escalate tensions in the region, and emphasized the need for international protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites. It called for a fair, lasting, and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
